Valentine’s ideas… with a toddler!

Girly pink Valentines day

I can’t say that I partake in Valentines day, other than eating every red velvet cupcake in sight, catching up on blogs, admiring the bouquets and gifts on instagram and buying the heart shaped and bunny rabbit

things okay that’s Easter. As a couple Mitch and I usually prefer to skip it and look forward to pancake day instead, but it’s so funny imagining what Oscar would make of these Valentines traditions…

. Hide romantic notes…  you write some poetic verses and spend time hiding them where only your partner can find them… until little hands get there first and the real treasure hunt begins. There are crumpled up pieces in the washing machine, little bits  in your shoes, in the cereal boxes in the cupboard, stuffed through the letterbox, and there are even some hidden in plain sight and strewn around the floor in spontaneity.

. Have a relaxing bubble bath… I envision something like LoveCatherine’s, the water is as hot as you can bear, the candles are lit, mountains of bubbles and lots and lots of tiny model cars tipped in for exfoliation purposes.

. A romantic craft project… something that may or may not be putting batteries in a spinny torch or trying to glue a wooden tractor back together, overseen by a very small, controlling construction manager.

. Find a romantic read… curl up and read some classics together! Something like Fox’s Socks or Chocolate Mousse for Greedy Goose, heartrending and impossible to put down for fear of evoking intense anger. If the story makes you bored, angry or it isn’t going right today you can always colour on the characters faces.

. Booking a getaway… I loved taking little boy on holiday (I made photo diaries on the blog here and here) but taking a child means you have to be completely prepared, have meals thought out in advance, about fourteen hours of entertainment or a spinny torch and take out travel insurance, even if you are setting off on a staycation or romantic break somewhere local to you. I am definitely a safer traveller because of him and am getting much more familiar with the ins and outs of travel insurance (I also have this guide to thank but shhh)

. A picnic in the living room… is made amazing with cute deer shaped toast, kinder eggs and oranges, straws to spy out of and little bowls you can fill with juice droplets from your bottle and wear as hats afterwards

. Valentine’s cocktails… these romantic cocktails have a unique twist and are so easy! Simply add in bits from the floor, tiny pieces of dried out playdough or alternatively sprinkle in old pine needles from under the sofa

. A romantic movie… try some of the great old romances from the golden age of film, like Cars, Cars 2 and Cars 3. Watch again and again and again and see how it gets even better each time. You’ll never want to stop, this will revolutionise your life! It will be the first thing you want to see every morning.

. Invest in something for your kids, together

Sometimes, the most romantic gestures are things you do as a team. Rather than buying a gift for each other, you could opt to pool your resources and do something shared. An experience makes such an amazing and unforgettable gift that will keep on giving!

You could invest in something enriching for your child, such as guitar lessons online for kids, a new toy set or even an experience trip! You’ll be able to celebrate your love for each other as a family through giving your child something truly special this Valentine’s Day.

There’s also a ‘massage’ idea, which would be the funniest experience with Oscar! I borrowed a few ideas from here for the purpose of this article but composed the majority myself. Thanks so much for reading! ♡

I can't wait to move out and hopefully have a decent bath so I can do the whole relaxing bubble bath thing. At our current home there's one bathroom and with a house full of girls everyone just walks in whenever, so it's not the most relaxing time hahah. The bath is also quite small, but one day I will enjoy a nice bath!

Haha we have the teeniest little baby bath for Oscar because he doesn't like showers xD I don't think I could fit in there, so I save my bubble baths for going over my parents house haha! Thank you so much Sophie! ♡

My fiance and I usually either go out for date night which includes dinner and movie or just have a good night in… Nothing special.

Lol, I like the idea of colouring on the characters' faces. Therapeutic colouring! A picnic in the living room sounds like a fun one, especially with the bowls as hats!

I'm single and don't tend to celebrate Valentine's Day, but I am signed-up to a Be Your Own Valentine free email series this year. I'm also going to make some red velvet brownies.

Aw, all you ideas for Valentine's are so sweet.😊 Like you, my participation in Valentine's Day is catching up on blogs, probably watching my favorite show on Netflix right now, The Originals, and inviting myself to my Valentine's treat.😊

Awh these are such lovely ideas, and the one about having deer-shaped toast is just the cutest! There's nothing quite like spreading a little bit of love on Valentine's Day.
