OGX is a brand I’m passionate about, it’s my secret trick to keeping long, full locks and there is no better treatment for sensitive, colour treated hair or for my scruffy ends. Their shampoos are unique
in that they don’t contain parabens or notorious Sodium Laureth Sulphate, an ingredient in many shampoos that, with constant use, can cause hair to turn dry and straggly. This was my problem every time my hair grew, it wouldn’t make it past a certain length without needing to be trimmed off again.
Ever since 2015 – when I wrote about them here! – I’ve been able to colour my hair and still keep it as long as I wish, which I am so happy about. The Cherry blossom and Ginseng range has been on my wishlist for ages
not purely because they are pink haha and I was thrilled to collaborate with OGX and trial the gold tipped bottles. This range is possibly my most favourite so far, delivering a blissful bathroom experience along with the softest, most luxurious feeling hair I’ve ever had, locks en pointe!
The scent is beautiful, it takes you to another place in time. Unlike other OGX fragrances this one isn’t tropical, it’s the most ethereal and beautiful floral scent – the aroma of sweet cherry blossoms is enchanting and your hair smells of them for days afterwards. I wish there were a perfume with this exact scent! Use paired with L’occitane’s Amande Almond oil, the scents juxtaposed are exquisite. You will smell like a cherry bakewell and have the softest skin and hair ever experienced, I promise!
The shampoos are usually so nourishing that I don’t even need to use conditioner, but my hair welcomes the treat. The bottles are definitely cute but sometimes tough to squeeze the product from, especially with slippery hands! From past experience, the bottles last over half a year for me; they feel endless haha. They are slightly pricier than other haircare products at around £7 but I try to take advantage of offers in Boots. I love that with a couple of bottles I am easily stocked up for the year!
A few hair care tricks and tips:
. Try to leave as long as possible between hair washes
. After applying shampoo and conditioner in turn, leave each for 2-5 mins before washing
. Apply conditioner to the ends of your hair: this helps me to go longer between hair washes
. Wash hair first so the soapy water won’t dry it out
. Be super gentle to your hair when it’s drying, as it’s most vulnerable to breakage at this point. I squeeze out the ends with a towel and try to dry naturally, maybe adding a bit of mousse when damp.
. Keep to a healthy diet, I’m trying to stick to the 80/20 rule haha; and get your daily intake of Omega 3 (think sardines) for boosted brain power and super shiny hair.
Overall I love how it transforms both my bath time experience and my hair. Having my hair in good condition brings out a curl in the ends and I don’t notice nearly so many split ends, so I don’t have to go to the hairdressers as often. Cherry Blossom is now available in selected Boots stores but if it’s not in yours yet, try the Vitamin B5, it is super hydrating and comes in a similar fragrance. For me, this brand is bathchanging in the sense of Lush bath bombs; once you try it, you can’t go back!
