Oscar has suddenly reached the stage where I cannot call him a baby any longer. I can’t get my head round how quickly he’s grown, now fifteen months and rushing up to his sixteen month milestone!
He’s become a little blondie, his hair long and feathery and his roots white blonde, fluffed up in every direction once he awakes from a nap. I love how it curls down in golden rings by the nape of his neck.
He has this thing for peas... Oscar has such funny food preferences! He likes nothing better than a huge steaming pile of peas on his tray and adores nutella sandwiches, although food is always the most delicious when it is stolen from someone else’s plate. He has been losing interest in yoghurts but adores his milk, so we are not concerned for his calcium. Luckily he loves having his vitamin syrup!
Tantrums have come to be a regular part of our day. Oscar has very strong opinions on what he would like to be doing, especially when it comes to soaking himself in the bathroom, emptying the bin and putting all the dirty laundry in his cot. He displays frustration by shouting, screaming, throwing things and making growling noises, which he knows will elicit a response (it’s so cute too!).
Temperment: Despite having mood swings, he is so affectionate and loving at this stage and can be angelic when he wants to be. I love how he takes a moment in his play to come up and press his forehead against my leg or touching heads with Hugo, our little cat. Hugo is still yet to have his little feature on my blog but he is such a sweetheart and is best friends with Oscar. They love to play football together at the park and Oscar has gotten the hang of stroking his fur gently now.
Sleep and bedtime: He takes around 2-3 naps a day, usually in his playpen, and wakes up 1-2 times each night for his bottle. He is very good at getting himself to sleep but doesn’t like to have his teeth being cleaned! He now has eight teeth, all four of his front ones and more coming at the sides.
Play: One of Oscar’s favourite thing during play is to sort and arrange his coloured bricks. He adores listening to music and jiggling along, bopping up and down and wiggling! He knows what ‘dance’ and ‘jump’ mean and is happy to demonstrate to the applause of family and strangers. He also knows the words ‘brick’, ‘duck’, ‘drink’, ‘growl’, ‘splash’ and ‘socks’ and loves to fetch various items and place them in our laps. Another favourite game of his is kicking, throwing and chasing after balls!
Speech: In terms of sounds and words, Oscar’s vocabulary is rapidly expanding. He has been practising talking a lot lately and as well as the usual babbling noises, there are a few words this time too! He can say ‘stop’, ‘yep’ and pronounce my sister’s name ‘Bridget’, which sounds like ‘Bwidzet’, sooooo cute! However, he will not do this on request, but usually for attention when he’s feeling bored. He calls Hugo ‘go’, exclaims ‘ahhhhh!’ when he recognises a favourite place and his favourite sound to make is ‘gung’. My secret favourite thing is when he waves at me from across the room, it’s heart melting!
We’ve been having a little break from swimming, so I can’t wait to get in to it again!
