Summer Lakes adventures

There are few things that warm my heart more than exploring my little corner of the globe. Before the season falls in to autumn I wanted to go out, capture and bring to you a slice of the Lakes in its gold

summer haze, all crystal blue lakes, bubbling brooks, misty hills, sun dappled glens and wilderness.

August has been such a beautiful month! We are giddy on hot sunshine, with the countryside gleaming green as peridot, all Lord of the Rings style. It feels like a fairytale world, undisturbed from modern society, as untamed as it always has been, spun out in Wordworth’s poems…

Or Dorothy’s diaries! I love these old stone walls, sprawling over countryside and fells, with little houses hidden in the glens. We watched as a sunny mist gathered upon the hills come evening time.

Sometimes I feel like Nick Carraway in the Great Gatsby, living among the millionaires of West Egg, a stowaway in our tiny flat. It’s our cosy little refuge on the doorstep of the great wilderness.

These old inns and cottages are so pretty, dotted about everywhere! I love when a house has a ‘EST’ plaque on the front, I just stand there imagining how it must have looked a hundred years ago haha.

My favourites are Ullswater, Coniston, Keswick and around Grasmere; they are definitely worth a visit, so extraordinary, wild, breathtaking and beautiful. This view is from just outside of Keswick.

When you arrive home your hair is swept back in ten different directions, you have nettle stings, sun freckles, tired feet but your eyes are sparkling. It’s all the riches one could ever need.

Do you like having adventures in the countryside – and are you sad to let go of summer?

Come with me to visit bluebell season in the garden or back to the sunny orchard ♡

This post is perfect, and beautifully written! I love the countryside too, it's just such a breath of fresh air when you come from the city. You're lucky to live around the Lakes, that's the perfect setting for a little wander and little Oscar will have plenty of space to have fun and play around in the future! 🙂

It looks so beautiful there! I live in S.Wales so right on the coast and love spending Summer walking at the beach, but we keep getting bad weather every weekend and blistering heat when I'm trying to work. For those reasons I have to admit I'm longing for Autumn now.

Oh how beautiful! I haven't been to the lakes since Easter. We always used to go with my Father in law but he's really not well so he can't walk the fells but I always regard my walks there as true halcyon days in my memories!
