Nostalgic film picks for romantic girls

Fairytale film favourites
Today I thought I'd try something different and go back in time to about the early years of the noughties. The time of begging my mum for cd's from supermarkets and swapping them at sleepovers. I
still get excited when I see these movies in HMV or online, I want to eat noodles, don disco lights and immerse myself in the land of snowflakes or latest dance routine. Let me know your favourites too!
Fairytale film favourites
Barbie in the Nutcracker movie - This film was my very first introduction to Tchaikovsky's music and one of the most amazing, magical pieces I had seen. Every time I listen to the music today, I imagine scenes from the film and follow the story in my head. Everything was so perfect, down from the edible sugarplum village, to the ending where they dance and Clara ghosts out spoilers.

Pocahontas movie - I remember endlessly playing 'Just around the Riverbend' and 'Colours of the Wind' on repeat. The film and soundtrack made such a big impression on me when I was little! It might have cemented my love of the outdoors and relationship with nature, reaffirmed as I grew older.

Barbie as Rapunzel movie - This was my Tangled before Tangled came about. Rapunzel's room was beautiful, all the paintings of different worlds, and it was a magical take on the Brothers Grimm story.

Beauty and the Beast, Enchanted Christmas movie - I'm pretty sure I spent all summer watching this at one point. It was the perfect sequel to Disney's original Beauty and the Beast and the perfect film for those like me who had watched the original too many times to count! I love the soundtrack and songs, they are so enchanting and earn a special spot in my ultimate Christmas playlist every year.

Snow White movie - My favourite ever version was Snow White: The Fairest of the All, but I love seeing different renditions of the story and the Disney one is so dreamy and lovely. Does anyone remember that cartoon version, I think it's by Jetlag Productions?

Scooby Doo 1 and 2 movies - These were probably my favourite movies of all time. I still adore the cast, outfits and plots and they will be so much fun to watch with Oscar, I can't wait to show him!

Matilda movie - Matilda was one of the most enjoyable films! Her magical powers were amazing, the scene with the dancing furniture still makes me smile from ear to ear as well as the 'Send me on my Way' song by Rusted Root. It's such a heartwarming film, especially the ending!

Steps album - A sneaky cd entry! These guys were amazing, especially with hits like Tragedy and 5,6,7,8 how can you not harmonise to it. I am a bit too excited to experience their reunion album here.

I'm counting down til my birthday haha! Other films I'm wishing for are the Blu Ray of Moana, Rings and Guardians of the Galaxy 2. Hopefully this wasn't too girly haha, I definitely haven't changed much. I'm off to find a curly wurly, I'd love to hear your childhood favourites and recommendations!

  5. Wow, I had almost forgotten about Barbie and the Nutcracker! I loved it so much I played the VHS on repeat haha. It was also my introduction to Tchaïkovsky and I've loved his music ever since. Pocahontas is still one of my all-time favourites, I can't get enough of Disney classics and I still love singing Colours of the Wind out loud. I loved this post Elizabeth, bringing us all back to childhood :D

  11. Out of all these movies, I've only seen Scooby Doo! 😱 I've set myself a little goal to watch more classic and well-known movies, so titles such as Snow White and Pocahontas are on my to watch list - just WHEN I'll get around to watching them is a different question 😝
