Planning a spring staycation*

Planning a spring break staycation, pack with me

Spring break is not often celebrated here in the UK, but it’s always nice to get away, if only for a day, while the sun is shining and bringing daffodils in its wake. In collaboration with Dat Tyres, who are on

hand to ensure both your car and trip are going smoothly, whether you’re heading off on a trip to the hills or a cosy local B&B, I’ve put together my planning routine and some tips I like to follow when embarking on an adventure, particularly in spring time. Spot the Too Faced cutie!
Planning your adventure – There are so many things to see and do in the Lakes, especially in spring time, when everything starts to bloom, just like Wordsworth’s daffodils! To get a little taste you can check out my posts here and here and I even composed a lil hotel and B&B wishlist if you’re ever planning a stay around the beautiful place that is Windermere. See if you can spot Puddleduck Cottage! There is a walk to be had almost everywhere, guided tours, sweet shops and the cutest little diners and cafes. Local markets give you a chance to sample food from around the area and the freshest, cheapest fruit and veg.

Getting your car ready*– Sometimes you’ve gotta cover the basics. It’s recommended that you get your car exhaust system checked at least once a year: a perfect time to do this is when you’re doing up your car all nice and clean in preparation for a long drive. Exhaust maintenance is so important as its job is to channel emissions away from the front of your car or campervan, as well as maintaining good fuel efficiency and reduced engine noise. Dat Tyre’s exhaust maintenance service will keep all the toxic engine gases away from you, so you can breathe easy, knowing your car is as ready for the trip as you are.

Get assistance from Dat Tyres at one of their branches if you’re in the London area or ask your local car service provider for a checkup if you’re a bit further away read too far away in the countryside like me!

Travel amusement – It’s a lovely idea to sort out a playlist to help you loosen up and put a smile on your face, especially as music is a great association tool. I choose soundtracks as they are sunny and calming, but I am definitely biased haha. It’s our little ritual to prepare some chocolate milk for Oscar – his favourite! – and pack his cars and puzzles to help him see travelling as an exciting, happy experience.

What to pack – Gather your picnic gear! That said, spring weather in the Lakes is definitely unpredictable; when it’s sunny, it’s glorious, but be prepared for hailstones, cold temperatures and quick changing weather! You might also experience cooler temperatures if you’re further up in the hills, so layers, raincoats, wellies and Urban Decay setting spray are good ideas Too Faced palette compulsory. I always take my Canon1100D with me, or some form of notebook or sketchpad and try to surrender to my surroundings, to drink in the fresh air, the sights, smells and sounds. I love to record everything, embracing that childlike wonder that comes with exploring an enchanting, new place.

Packing tips – I love to roll my clothes up when packing them as I can get more in and they don’t crumple, as long as they are neat enough in the suitcase. Have fun and indulge in pastel hues and prints and don’t forget your favourite flower crown! I like to save space whenever possible by using a picnic hamper to pack clean clothes, towels and snacks for the journey.. or just in case a paddle in the lake is on the cards. Babywipes are my number one lifesaver, even when I’m not balancing a small child haha!

What do you think? Are you heading off on a spring break or staycation? ♡

I've also taken the habit of rolling my clothes instead of folding them, it does save a lot of space in the suitcase! Now that the weather is getting better and spring is on the way (finally!), I'll be planning a few day trips and short holidays here and there and these tips are just right, thanks for sharing!

Ooh I love heading to The Lakes! Whether you like a relaxing walk or some exciting offroading, there really is something for everyone, all within easy driving distance of each other. I'm hoping to book a little something for May, and I will definitely use your tip of rolling clothes to banish creases!
