My dress diaries, part two

One of my most favourite and more loved posts way back in the summer was my Vintage dress collection and I've been itching to create a dress tour sequel. You may have guessed that I'm a dress girl at
heart! I always feel there's something fanciful, girlish and whimsical about wearing a dress, they're so easy to layer and can be worn in so many different ways. In school I was always the one in a skirt as opposed to trousers. If they'd had a line of dresses, I would have spent my early teenage years in those too!
This super cute plaid smock dress by Boohoo is one of my favourites! I think I bought it for only £8-£10 and it was new with tags. I love to wear it with a woolly cardie and adore the pleats in the skirt, although it tends to crease easy in my wardrobe. I'm secretly excited to see if I can get a slightly bigger wardrobe when we move not for new dresses at all, everything has gotten a bit too cramped in mine haha!
This is a more recent purchase as I needed a new long sleeve dress for the winter. The keyhole neckline is so cute! Something I've been wanting to experiment with are different necklines. It's almost got a pink velvet look about it and I love the twirly ice skater style skirt. It reminds me of a modern fairytale dress!
The skirt is a really nice length to wear with or without tights. My only regret is not going for the smaller size as I would love a tighter fit; my grandmama is amazing with a needle and thread though so might ask if she can make any adjustments around the waist for me! This is something I would love to learn, so I can make and mend my own clothes. Are you/is someone you know good with sewing dresses/costumes?
I have always adored this dress on the Modcloth website although could never justify the huge shipping costs. It's known as the Major Course of Stunning dress and its previous owner had actually ordered it from there, but found it was the wrong fit. I managed to save over £40 from the original price on the Modcloth website and bought for a total bargain at only £5! I adore the fit and flare style of the waist and skirt; it even comes with a little green belt but I prefer it without. I feel like a humbug wearing this dress!
Up next is my Bicycle smock dress by Sugarhill Boutique. I saw this exact dress on Modcloth years ago and instantly fell in love wahhh again with the sucky shipping prices. We found each other in lovely dress shop Thunder Egg in Manchester and knew we were meant to be, even if the only version left in stock was a good few sizes too big for me. I don't mind it oversized at all, I love the cute smock dress fit!
I call this my Snow White dress, not only because its poofy sleeves, collar and bodice are so similar to the 1930's film princess' gown, but is the most beautiful crimson juicy apple red. I won this second hand Gunne Sax dress in auction and love the prairie feel about it! It does up at the back and can also lace up at the bodice. I am passionate about period dress and 19th century costume and would love to have a go at creating some old fashioned outfits with a modern twist and experiment with some full body shots! Dresses often completely change shape when worn so I am interested to see what I can create.
The story of a dress is so funny and I wonder what kind of lives and different owners mine have lived through. I really recommend keeping an eye on the local secondhand dress shops and ebay, you can find some real gems on there! Storenvy is also one of my favourite places to shop as I am supporting small businesses at the same time as finding dresses from similar outlets like Modcloth still figuring out ways of moving to US. There are also a few I'd love to rehome and hopefully feature in a blog sale! Let me know what you think about this - thank you so much for reading my dress diaries!

  3. The bicycle dress is so cute yet not too childish! I love dresses, too. I think they're easy to move in compared to wearing bottom-top.

  10. Love, love, love the bicycle print dress, it's so cute.

Even if it is a couple of sizes too big, I think you can get away with that with smock dresses - sometimes they even look better a little on the baggy side! :)

    Great post.

  13. Such a cute post, I love the idea of dress diaries! The keyhole neckline dress is my favourite, and it reminds me of an ice-stating costume. When I was younger I used to enjoy ice-stating lessons. I adore vintage style too, and the process of finding gems can be really fun! :-) xx
