Too Faced, Chocolate Bon Bons palette

Today I have something truly magical to review, in the form of the Chocolate Bon Bons eye shadow palette, by Too Faced. It was from the price tag that I’d been put off buying this, as I

hadn’t been able to justify it beforehand. I found this gem at the lovely sailorjennie‘s blog sale for £20, reduced from the full £39 and unused apart from being swatched a few times, so I jumped at the chance to scoop a pretty bargain and help a blogger out at the same time! Read on for an in depth review, including an investigation as to how it actually tastes!

The palette comes in a lovely little pink and brown box with gold adornments and the shades on the back all sound delectable! I completely have a thing for Too Faced’s packaging, they go all out to ensure their products look beautiful both on the inside and outside. I love the concept behind their chocolate range and how the palettes are made to look like chocolate boxes.

In this case, the chocolates are little hearts! The palette is surprisingly large so you get a good amount of product in each shade. There is also a lovely mirror with protective film, that I don’t often use, but is great for touching up or applying eyeshadow on the go!

On first impression, this palette only seems to contain brights and shimmers but, on closer inspection, it holds a fantastic array of nudes and natural shades that are incredibly versatile and promise to suit any complexion. The pigmentation is seriously amazing with these and they are buttery, smooth and apply so well. The longevity is amazing with just about all of them and they each last at about seven hours, improved further with the use of primer and setting spray.

After swatching these on my arm, I literally had stripes on there for days! An only con for me is that they were hard to remove as a result and takes a while to correct a mistake or if you accidentally get a dark smudge on your cheek, just me? Here’s a little breakdown of the shades:

1. Almond Truffle – A medium, pink matte brown that looks a little chalky but is actually really smooth in texture. It really reminds me of pink sandstone and I can only really describe it as beige or fawn. It makes for a lovely transition shade and is the perfect combination shade of pink and brown.

 2. Satin Sheets – A ethereal barely there beige pink with gold shimmer that isn’t quite as intense as the other shades but shows up and lasts beautifully on the eye. Don’t underestimate its pigmentation or shimmer. This would work wonderfully as a highlighter also.

 3. Sprinkles – This is a warm light pink with golden shimmer, a darker version of Satin Sheets for me as it shares the same warm glow. Lighter than Cotton Candy but a lovely transition shade that looks gorgeous on its own and compliments the other shades beautifully.

 4. Molasses Chip – A shimmery, metallic ‘fools gold’ shade that is almost coppery. It’s super pigmented and so beautiful! Definitely one of my favourites and I love to use it with Black Currant for contrasting shades and to imitate the looks from the much coveted Peanut Butter and Jelly palette.

 5. Malted – A rich chocolately mid brown shade – the perfect milk chocolate colour for me. The exact shade of a galaxy or cadbury bar. It literally looks, smells and tastes like hot chocolate. This first appears matte but has a subtle pink gold shimmer when it catches the light.

 6. Cashew Chew – A light peach fawn shade that is the lightest of the nudes/taupes. It looks matte but has a hint of satin shimmer and tends to be one of the driest so performs better over a primer. Very versatile and would look lovely with other warm shades in the palette, such an Molasses Chip and Almond Truffle.

 7. Cotton Candy – This is a shimmery vivid candy pink shade with a silver frosted sheen. It’s very fairy like and not quite as intense as some of the other shades, but stays on for ages and looks beautiful on the eye.

 8. Cafe Au Lait – A light grey, mauve beige shade with lots of silver shimmer. It looks quite silvery in the pan but when swatched turns in to beige glitter. The texture, consistency and shimmer is most similar to Molasses Chip, although is not quite as pigmented, and this would make the perfect accompaniment to Pecan Praline.

9. Bordeaux – A warm, burgundy matte darker brown shade that has a smooth, buttery texture. This is one of the true matte shades in the palette and layers nicely without turning patchy. This is a very pigmented, rich brown, think red velvet cake colour. A very versatile shade.

10. Mocha – A fawn beige completely matte brown that, for me, is the warmest out of the browns and nudes and goes hand in hand with Molasses Chip. They compliment each other beautifully and I would throw in Malted as well for a beautiful smoky bronze look.

11. Black Currant – A deep purple, heather shade with a good amount of shimmer. This is a really lovely alternative to the usual brown palette shades and looks so pretty juxtaposed with some of the other shades, such as Molasses Chip. I like to wear over primer as it’s one of the fussiest shades on the skin and looks best when blended out with one of the other shades.

12. Dark Truffle – This is a deep velvety dark cocoa brown, with a smooth buttery texture. It applies really nicely and is definitely one of the essential shades for me, as it’s really versatile. The pigmentation is amazing with this and I can imagine it becoming a firm favourite of the palette.

13. Pecan Praline – A light grey taupe matte brown shade with a slightly dusty texture, that feels silky smooth to the touch. It’s not as intense as the other shades, but still shows up nicely on the eye and is very versatile for any look. I would describe it as the coldest/coolest brown/nude in the palette.

14. Totally Fetch – This is a bright, medium to dark fuschia pink, one of the shades that is not as versatile for me, as it’s such a vivid, intense colour. That said, it works perfectly with the other shades when used here and there, perhaps at the outer corner of the eye and produces a lovely flush of colour. A little bit goes a long way and I’m so glad it’s included with the palette. I’m actually wondering now how it would fare as a blush.

15. Earl Grey – A blackened gun metal shade, the colour of dark, ominous clouds. Acts as a charcoal if thickly layered and works best over a primer as the texture is a little more dusty. Very intensely pigmented with a hint of satin shimmer.

16. Divinity – An almost pure white shade with a dusty consistency and has a little bit more fallout during application than the other shades. That said, it gives excellent colour payoff for a chalk white shade and looks beautiful as a highlighter or on the inner corners of the eye.

One of my favourite features of this palette is that is smells heavenly! The box alone has a sweet aroma and opening the case releases the most delicious rich scent of hot chocolate or brownies. This is due to the cocoa infused formula, which also happens to be rich in antioxidants.

Another surprising feature of the palette is that it actually tastes delicious! I think of myself as an adult now sometimes and also know that eyeshadows are not for eating. However, I was amazed, when wetting my finger to rub some off my cheek, to discover that it tasted of icing sugar. Then *swatches on arm, then licks* yes, I can confirm they taste good too! Sweet and chocolatey, partially like icing sugar, although I wouldn’t recommend eating them.

Also included with the palette is this little guide of looks you can create, which is really helpful for getting a feel for the palette and encouraging you to experiment with the shades.

I’m really love with this palette! It’s right up my street with the cute and quirky design, cocoa scented shades and I underestimated how beautiful the shades really are. It’s definitely worth the full price for me. It’s made getting ready in the mornings such a fun experience and my face is chocolate scented! Find it in Debenhams here. I’m looking out for the sweet Peach palette now, I’d love to see how it compares. What’s your favourite eyeshadow palette?

I love the Too Faced chocolate range, I have the original palette and it's fab – I'd love to add this to my collection. I really like the look of the PB&J palette, too, although I don't think I'd be able to handle the scent :/

This palette was quite a bargain for you, blog sales are awesome πŸ˜€ There are indeed many beautiful nude shades to work with, I tend to overlook Toof Faced palettes because they always have a few super bright colours that I'd never wear, but this is a cute and very wearable palette actually!

Hahaha, I think this is the only review of the palette that mentions the taste!
The colours are gorgeous – I can see the downside of them being difficult to remove, but I guess it's better in the long run that they're more durable!
