Romantic living in 2016

There's something magical about the prospect of a new, untouched year ahead, all of it ready to be experienced. This often comes with the pressure of the 'New Year, New you' complex,
making us feel like we should be transforming our old selves in to beautiful, elevated beings overnight. When we inevitably don't reach superhuman status it can result in feelings of low self worth and can damage our self esteem, portraying our 'old selves' as something bad instead of something wonderful. I know that I've previously set super high goals but never thought out how I might reach them, such as 'be less anxious'. I've then felt disappointed in myself, when I really shouldn't have at all! Negative reinforcements can fuel negative thoughts, behaviours and fears which can all distract from our inner dreams and ambitions.

I'm a big believer of making little changes, maybe ones I've been putting off or dreaming about doing, to help me evolve. Taking each change one by one and challenging myself, I've tried to avoid punishing myself, we are in the midst of one the coldest, darkest month for one. I'd love to lose the rest of my baby weight so have enlisted the help of Mary Helen Bowers via DVD form, as I find her exercises fun to do! Keeping busy will (hopefully) distract me from eating when I'm not hungry and there's quite a few therapeutic things I'd like to try too.

Here's my own little checklist I've composed for the new year. Some of them are harder to do than others but I'm looking forward to pacing myself and seeing what I can do. Maybe I will check back in December to see how many I have managed to complete!

 Collect more crystals
 Send flowers to someone
Have a bath infused with flowers
 Look after my followers
Build a beautiful garden space (for our flat)
 Travel somewhere far from home
 Donate monthly to charity
Clean out living spaces and fill them with treasures
 Film a sunset
♡ Get involved with an environmental project
Go on a daytrip with friends
 Manage to spot a deer
Go and see Disney's 'Moana' at the cinema
Visit a woodland area and be immersed in birdsong
 Make a scrapbook album
 Sign a petition
Repeat a fitness routine three times a week
Eat a huge orange outside in the sun
 Make a full moon ritual
Light candles and fill spaces with flowers

However you evolve in 2016, be assured that it is all quintessentially you, the magical being that you are. What's on your list for the new year?

    1. Also, Moana is actually a film about New Zealand! Moana is Maori for Ocean, and the film follows one of the Maori myths and legends! That's so cool! x

  6. I love that among all your goals there is a sense of awareness and mindfulness that often gets lost in the "New Year, New Me"-stuff that only seems to put even more pressure on our stressed old self that is struggling.

  7. What a beautiful set of aspirations. I love that so many are non-material things that get you connecting to nature and your own wellbeing. Will definitely be emulating this myself!

  8. I agree with you! The whole "new year, new you" can be more harmful than helpful.
Your goals for this year seem like fun and varied things, I wish you all the best with them!

    Much love,

  10. It can be so, so much more managable to set little achievable goals , you're right it really is awful on your self esteem to set ridiculously hard goals :) I've became really interested in crystals recently, I'd love to see a post on the crystals you own as I want to start collecting them myself ! I'm also starting a scrapbook with my best friend which I'm really excited for :)

    Lots of love, Marianne xxx

  14. This is probably the most adorable goals list I've ever read!!! You've got me feeling inspired to come up with a tangible list of goals for the year. I have ideas for them, but I haven't actually written anything out. They say that writing something out, making it more physical, helps you keep it in mind better. Wishing you an enchanting 2016 and good luck on achieving all of your goals. :)
