Vegetable Garden

Growing currently are runner beans – and kiftsgate roses curling and sprawling delightfully over the rooftops and the old stone privvy! Everything has been late to start but now things are growing so fast, we must trim the strands and leaves back to afford passage in to the garden! Can you see those baby shoots quickly growing in strength? They will hopefully be on our table as purple-sprouting brocolli and kale come next April. It is amazing that they will keep growing and thriving through the freezing temperatures of the winter, completely unspoiled. That is if the deer are kept at bay!

These kiftsgate roses are lovely, they often remind me something of an english frangipani flower! In appearance, they differ greatly from a usual rose. It is amazing to stand in this small portion of garden and feel the sense of timelessness; how the soil has been ploughed and utilised over how many hundreds of years to grow vegetables and produce, even as methods have changed! In an age where so much is purchased and traded online, often halfway around the world, ’tis lovely to reap the rewards of a self-sustained garden.

Even a good old fashioned compost heap!

Aw sandpit sounds lovely too, like a beach! I would love to live somewhere like that, I might miss the country, but I love seaside, city and hot places 😀 I'm sure there are other lovely plants that will grow there and not here, in which case, I am jealous hehe! xD xx

I love this idea! Runner beans are a great vegetable to have so fresh. I grow a little bit of mint, but when we have our new house I intend to grow potatoes and some other veggie's. Thanks for the post! X

When I get a house with a garden you can be sure I'll try my hand at growing some vegetables! I'm currently attempting to grow a cucumber on my kitchen windowsill – so far so good!

I would love to have a vegetable garden, I'm quite jealous of yours aha! Although, I'm not sure how good I would be at keeping everything alive – is everything easy to grow and look after?

Hi Alice! Aw thank you, hehe I'm much better at outside plants than inside ones! I find it easier in lots of ways, but then you have obstacles like garden creatures to ward away xD it is relatively easy! xx
